If you missed the School of the Brown County Ursulines Alumnae Day Celebration, you really missed out on a great event. Once again, the lovers of all things BCU gathered to celebrate our association with the Brown County, visit with classmates and make new acquaintances.
An Incredible Turnout
Sr. Agatha reports that this may have been the biggest Alumnae Day turn out ever (at least since she’s been keeping the records!) Over 100 graduates, former students, faculty and staff pre-registered - that was astounding in and of itself. To top things off, folks just kept showing up! At this writing, the final count is not in, but there may have been over 120 attendees.
Fun and Fellowship
“Controlled Chaos” are the words used to describe the noise and excitement in the Playhall. Suffice it to say, it did get loud in there, but if this is an indication the enjoyment factor, then it bears repeating: Alumnae Day 2007 was a Huge Success!
Anniversary Classes
We recognized the Anniversary Classes of 1937, 1942, 1947, 1952, 1967, 1972, 1977 and 1982.
Cheers and Tears - Highlights of the Day
Standing ovations abounded. After 2 successful years at the helm of the BCU Alumnae Association, Jean McNamara turned over her gavel to loud cheers for her dynamic leadership.
- The Class of 1982 was recognized by an Honorary Graduation Ceremony complete with Pop and Circumstance. Each member of this class in attendance was presented with an Honorary Diploma and a red rose.
- The Class of 1967 made a significant contribution to the new The Funds for Nuns effort.
- An auction of a beautiful quilt incorporating pictures of the Ursuline Sisters ended with the Sr. Patricia having the winning ticket. By the end of the day, the quilt was hanging in the Archives for all to enjoy. Perfect!
- Alumnae Day activities ended with a gathering for dinner at the General Denver in Wilmington, OH for more fellowship, fun, conversation and good food.
Plan to Join the Celebration in 2008
Mark your calendar for Alumnae Day 2008 and make plans to join in the fun next year.

One of the reasons The BCU Alumnae Association exists is to support the Ursuline Sisters of Brown County who taught us and guided us through our formative years. As the community ages, their needs have changed and this has provided a perfect opportunity us to support them in a meaningful way.
The Funds for Nuns Program has been designed to provide discretionary money to Sr. Ruth (Sister’s Advocate) to fulfill the needs any Sister may have. Sr. Ruth has intimate knowledge of what each sister specifically needs and this fund will put cash at her disposal so she can meet these needs. One recent example was the purchase of a large face clock for a Sister whose vision is failing.
This is a great opportunity to help Sr. Ruth be an “angel” for any and everyone. Watch this space for instructions on contributing to the Funds for Nuns Campaign.

What wasn’t to love about Alumnae Day this year? Although the day was long, a good time was had by all.
- The weather was wonderful.
- The turn out was better than expected (over 100 classmates and friends showed up).
- The Anniversary Classes were there enmass.
- The last classes of BCU showed up in a mighty big way. (We are so delighted you came and hope you felt the warmth we feel toward all of you!)
- The food was yummy (can I get the recipe for those vegetables?)
- The chinese raffle was a huge success.
- The “Ursuline Vineyards” bottles were a kick.
- Dinner at the General Denver was good.
I want express our thanks to the Board for the terrific execution. (As a pre-board member, I was able to watch all the communication, effort and planning that went into making this day a success. It was no small feat and yet they still managed to have fun behind the scenes)
Watch the site for pictures and highlights of the day. If you missed it, mark you calendar and plan to be present for Alumnae Day 2007.
Did you have a good time? Tell us your thoughts…

here’s what the critics (read fans) had to say:
“You did a great job. I’m impressed. But, you don’t sound anything like I remember.” -Inuccia
“You were very seasoned, have a great voice and knew your stuff. My only question is…….most of the songs you played, I didn’t know. Where was I during that period of music you played?” -Angie
looks like his fans love him!!!

We had so much fun this past weekend, folks are already asking for the date for next year’s gathering.
Mark Saturday, September 15th on your calendars so you don’t miss it! ( Yes, there is an error on the Event day — it says Friday and I don’t know why. September 15th is indeed a Saturday! I’ll get to the bottom of this.)
